The student will create their own happy colorful drawing of a puppy inspired by artist Romero Britto.
About the Artist: Romero Britto is an artist and sculptor who was born in Brazil and currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. His style of art can be described as a mix of Pop Art, Cubism, and Graffiti art. He uses bright colors and bold patterns to express happiness, love, hopes and dreams. Some of his subjects include cats, dogs, hearts, flowers and happy people. Britto’s work is displayed all around the world and has also been Cirque Du Soleil at Super Bowl XLI and he also served as an official artist for the 2010 World Cup. He has collaborated with many brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Walt Disney, Universal Pictures, Carnival Cruise Line, Hasbro and Mattel to name a few. Britto is a strong believer in the role of an artist as an agent of positive change, and has also donated to over 250 charitable organizations.
STEP 1: Lightly with pencil, draw your subject in the middle of the paper using large simple shapes. This could be a puppy (demonstrated in the video), a tracing of your hand, a heart, or any subject you choose. Draw lines radiating from the main subject that reach out to the edge of the paper in order to divide the background into sections.
STEP 2: Trace over your drawing with a black permanent marker.
STEP 3: Using the black permanent marker, fill in each shape with a different pattern. Think of using various types of shapes, lines, or symbols.
STEP 4: Use colorful markers to color in each shape. (Lighter and brighter colors work best because you can color right over the sharpie design.)
